A closeup to faucet design exhibition in the International ceramic trade fair 2012 in Bologna
Visiting such an exhibition as the bathroom’s faucet and furniture design in Bologna is the best way to understand how design can be important for a company. It shows how such a common object as faucet can be the result of months of several researches and studies and sometimes become the focus product of an entire company. Each step during a design process can be considered as a result of a projectual decision starting from the dimensions to materals and how to improove them with new technologies; from geometry to the project of a new way to give people a solution for a product they must have in their own house. The keyword is innovation and it can be linked to each step of the design preocess. Part of this innovation goes to the distinction becoming more and more clear based on the different employments of the faucets depending on the room they’re going to be installed. Different rooms are linked to different atmospheres. As an example the bathroom is becoming more and more projected as a relaxing room and the kitchen is nomore separated from the livingroom. This is happening because people’s life has changed and they need new conceptions of spaces and new devices to enjoy them in the best way possible. The insertion of soft lights in the faucet system, the sound produced by the water falling down into the bath tub or into the washbasin are probably the new reasons which push people to buy a product instead of another for their bathroom. If we instead consider a kitchen room, this choise would be much more driven by a series of practical needs. The previous ones are all considerations that shine through the cersaie 2012 exhibition of Bologna that allows people to get in touch with the importance of being a design oriented company.
